This weekend, I swapped my usual courtroom clothes for a lively pop-art getup and joined the Friends of Reading Hospital at their colorful Farm to Tableaux fundraiser.
The event was inspired by Andy Warhol, and while I typically lean more towards “legal briefs” rather than “paintbrushes,” I truly enjoyed immersing myself in such a creative environment that united people for an essential cause – community healthcare.
Healthcare impacts every one of us. As an attorney, I’ve been fortunate to represent children, families, and individuals during some of their most challenging times. Many of these situations are closely linked to access to healthcare – be it a parent seeking to overcome addiction, a child in need of therapy, or an elderly relative figuring out long-term care.
What makes Farm to Tableaux stand out is how it transforms philanthropy into an engaging experience. The art, the food, the uplifting vibe – it all came together to elevate a cause that often gets the spotlight only during crises. But good healthcare begins well before an emergency strikes. It starts with preventive care, education, and robust community partnerships – precisely the kind that the Friends of Reading Hospital continue to nurture.
Attending this event reminded me of the importance of collaboration across all fields, including the legal system. Judges may not be doctors, but we witness the ripple effects of healthcare access – or the lack of it – in our courtrooms daily. From issues related to mental health to substance abuse recovery and medical needs in family court, health significantly influences lives.
I felt privileged to be part of a night that beautifully combined creativity, purpose, and compassion. I remain dedicated to supporting organizations that make healing a shared community goal.
